Sky Atlantic s Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief wins multiple Emmys

Feature documentary premieres 9pm, 21st September on Sky Atlantic

Critically acclaimed feature documentary Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief, which is a Sky Atlantic co-production from Academy Award winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, triumphed at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last night. The film was nominated for seven Awards and won in three categories:

Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief receives its UK TV premiere at 9pm on 21st September on Sky Atlantic. An extraordinary and powerful film, it highlights the Church's origins - from its roots in the mind of founder L. Ron Hubbard to its rise to popularity in Hollywood and beyond. It intimately profiles eight former members of the Church of Scientology, shining a light on how the organisation attracts true believers and the things its members do in the name of religion.

At the heart of the film is a series of shocking claims (which are denied by the Church) by former insiders, including high-ranking and recognizable members such as acclaimed screenwriter Paul Haggis (Crash) as they describe a systematic history of abuse and betrayal by Church officials, including the current leadership of the church.

Based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Lawrence Wright, Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief is produced by Jigsaw Productions for Sky Atlantic.
