Jump into summer with RT this June Bank Holiday weekend, with a bumper offering of entertainment. The country will be alive with sport, music and festivals, and RT will bring you to the heart of the action across RT One, RT 2, RT Player and all RT Radio stations.
The bank holiday weekend kicks off in earnest from Thursday 30 May as RT returns to the Phoenix Park for Bloom by Bord Bia. Marty Whelan begins RT 's full five-day schedule from the festival at 10.00am on lyric fm, with great live music, chat and special guests until noon. Then at 7.00pm on RT One & RT Player, ine Lawlor and Marty Morrissey will capture the atmosphere of the first day of the festival, from the show gardens on display to the best from the food village. Throughout the weekend, RT has something for everyone at the festival, bringing great music, chat and live shows from RT lyric fm favourites; magic and fun from RT jr and RT Kids at the Budding Bloomers Stage; Countrywide live on RT Radio 1; regular live RT Weather updates, and much more (full schedule below).
RT 's Summer of Sport continues with an action-packed bank holiday weekend of live sport. Friday 31 May sees presenter Marie Crowe alongside ine O'Gorman and Lisa Fallon for live coverage on RT 2 & RT Player of the Republic of Ireland v Sweden Women's Euro 2025 Qualifier from the Aviva Stadium (7.00pm).
Saturday 1 June kicks off with Munster's crucial URC derby with Ulster live from Thomond Park (5.15pm, RT 2 & RT Player) followed by the Champions League Final between Dortmund and Real Madrid live from Wembley (7.15pm, RT 2 & RT Player) when Joanne Cantwell will be joined by Richie Sadlier and Shay Given. Later on Saturday night, also on RT 2 & RT Player (10.50pm), Damian Lawlor and guests will have highlights and analysis of all the day's GAA Championship action on The Saturday Game.
Sunday 2 June sees a live double-header of GAA Football Championship games on The Sunday Game Live (1.30pm, RT 2 & RT Player) presented by Joanne Cantwell with Meath v Kerry from Navan (2.00pm) followed by Derry v Armagh from Derry (4.00pm) while on Sunday evening Jacqui Hurley and guests will take a look back at the weekend's action on The Sunday Game (9.30pm, RT 2 & RT Player).
Dive into history on Sunday evening, with the first episode of Invasion: The Normans (6.30pm on RT One & RT Player), a documentary series exploring the 12th-century Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland, combining stunning location footage, atmospheric drama re-enactments, and vivid modern-day sequences.
On Bank Holiday Monday, celebrate the original Irish guitar hero with Rory Gallagher: Calling Card (6.30pm, RT One & RT Player). Featuring rare, never-before-seen archive and interviews with Rory's closest friends and family alongside musical legends including Johnny Marr, Brian May and Bob Geldof, this is the definitive portrait of one of the greatest musicians ever to emerge from Ireland. Later that evening, Against the Head (8.00pm, RT 2 & RT Player) will have highlights and analysis of the weekend's rugby action.
The long weekend rounds out with a double-header of live international soccer. First up it's the Women's Euro 2025 Qualifier between Sweden and Republic of Ireland from Stockholm (5.00pm, RT 2 & RT Player) followed by the men's friendly between the Republic of Ireland v Hungary from the Aviva Stadium (7.30pm, RT 2 & RT Player).
There are also plenty of boxsets to stream on RT Player, from both seasons of The Dry to the Player Original Charleen and Ellie Go All In, and plenty of music, sport and chat to enjoy on RT Radio across the bank holiday weekend.
On RT Radio 1 on Monday, The Marty Morrissey Show will raise the spirits with conversation, music and entertainment from 9.00am. Vincent Woods gets to know the coastline, people and nature of County Antrim on The County Measure at 11.00am. The guest for Louise Duffy's Studio Sessions at 12.00pm is Richard Hawley who will talk about his songwriting, musical influences and perform some of his favourite songs. In Services Ahead at 1.30pm, Brenda Donohue spends 24 hours in the Circle K Service Station near Gorey, off the M11 where people stop for all sorts of reasons petrol, a coffee, a chat. Wildtrack at 2.00pm celebrates June with a free-flowing montage of speech, sounds and music. The RT Concert Orchestra Presents a Queen Symphonic Rock Spectacular at 2.15pm, while at 3.00pm, in a Nature on One special, biologist Terry Flanagan covers a diverse range of topics from the prospect of recreating dinosaurs to the benefits of poo. Fiachna Braon in sits down with Mike Scott of The Waterboys at 4.00pm to talk about how they made This is the Sea, almost four decades on from its release.
On Saturday and Sunday, Graham Smyth will feature the music of the 2FM Rising artists performing at Forbidden Fruit Festival (RT 2FM, 3.00pm-6.00pm), kicking off his show with two hours of hits and festival favourites from the acts playing on stage, before diving into a mix of current and classic dance tracks for the final hour. On Bank Holiday Monday, the theme on RT 2FM will be Summer Anthems, bringing you the best tunes to get in the summer spirit.
