Sky News Arabia is covering all the events from the current World Cup in Brazil, using a Panasonic P2 250 camera, a Sennheiser MHK-416 shotgun mic, a cellular IFB setup and TVUPack mobile IP newsgathering transmitters.
The two-man team of Tarek Boussaha, senior photographer/editor, and Jafer Khalil Al-Zoubi, chief sub editor, have delivered dozens of live shots from multiple locations in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Transmitting over Brazilian 3G/4G networks, with the TVUPack, Sky News Arabia has delivered the live HD shots back to the production facility in Dubai at two seconds latency.
We shoot at least one packaged piece every day, explained Boussaha. We also go live multiple times a day. We have a fixed time where we go live at 7:30pm local time every day, but we'll also do live shots throughout the day, depending on the situation. Sometimes we go live from the stadium, from downtown, from the fan fest. It depends on the event. There have been times where we've done as many as 12 live shots in a given day. The quality of the shots has looked terrific. Colleagues have asked me where we rented the SNG. I tell them it's not SNG, it's TVU.
The TVUPack is one of the best solutions that I've ever worked with, added Al-Zoubi. We just grab the backpack, go wherever we want, and the signal has been perfect. With a professional cameraman, going live from Brazil has been easy. We covered a protest here in Brazil. We carried the TVUPack and walked with the protesters and the police as we went live. The studio took us live for 20 minutes. That's unheard of for us to carry a live shot for that long.
