Ateme powers TV Azteca 4K live broadcast

TV Azteca partnered with Ateme to broadcast the international football match between Mexico and Paraguay in 4K on 28 May.

The broadcast took place via satellite and terrestrial network, with Ateme providing the digital compression of the signal.

The 4K signal was encoded at 20 Mbps, in HEVC main10 profile and in real time using Ateme's Titan solution to power satellite and terrestrial delivery.

Innovation and highest standard of operation are the foundations for driving TV Azteca s leadership to the next level, said Pedro Carmona, technology director for TV Azteca.

These two foundations were fulfilled by Ateme: the first one by using a future-proof solution, with a path to next UHD formats, and the second one by having a pure software solution running on COTS hardware, which provides all the flexibility we need.

Titan is a virtualised, software-based encoder-transcoder designed for cable, DTH, DTT and OTT. Ateme say that it can run on any commercial off-the-shelf server, in any environment, removing all infrastructure constraints and reducing time-to-market and OPEX.

Robert Oaxaca, country manager for Mexico at Ateme, added, Again, this is a new 4K reference in Ateme portfolio, with this project following a number of UHD live transmissions and channels deployed all around the world.
