Nokia Networks doubles speed in Sonera s 4G network in Helsinki

Data rates with up to 300 Mbps speeds on live LTE network in Helsinki

LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation on 1800 and 2600 MHz frequency bands

Espoo, Finland - Sonera, one of the leading mobile operators in Finland, has introduced extremely fast 300 Mbps download data speeds in certain areas* of Helsinki. The operator launched its commercial LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network and is now able to provide higher network capacity, speed and performance.

LTE-A makes networks a lot faster

Carrier aggregation accelerates typical user data rates by more flexible radio resource selection in LTE-Advanced networks. Operators can create larger, virtual carrier bandwidths for services by combining separate spectrum bands. Nokias LTE-Advanced networks can deliver data to mobile devices at rates most people have never experienced on a residential broadband connection. Sonera now offers data speeds in Finlands capital up to two times faster than previously possible with 4G LTE.

Downlink data rates of up to 300 Mbps are achieved by aggregating spectrum resources with a total bandwith of up to 40 MHz

1800 MHz and 2600 MHz frequency bands were used

Sonera business customers using Sonera Sopiva Pro or Real 4G Max subscriptions can now take advantage of the service

Sonera offers Samsung Galaxy Alpha and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphones to use LTE-A and new devices are being added to the portfolio at the beginning of 2015

The agreement includes systems integration services and Nokias Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station

With LTE-Advanced we make sure our network can address these capacity changes now and in the future .

An LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation network can be linked to a multi-lane highway, where adding more lanes allows more cars to travel from A to B. Nokias Carrier Aggregation software effectively does this both dynamically and flexibly in the network, selecting the best radio cells to be aggregated.

Carrier aggregation is one of the key functionalities of LTE-A that aggregates the resources of two frequency bands to increase bandwith.
