HAMBURG/Germany, OBERKOCHEN/Germany, 08.05.2015.
ZEISS was recognized with three awards at the WorldMediaFestival 2015. The 360 degree fulldome show Light produced for ZEISS by the Munich-based media agency visuarte - mediale erlebniswelten won the intermedia-globe GOLD Award and the intermedia-globe Grand Award, taking the top spot in the Education category. visuarte also won silver in the "Integrated Media Campaigns" category for the product animations it developed for the ZEISS Vision Care business group. The award ceremony took place on May 6, 2015 in Hamburg.
"Were delighted to see these films getting international recognition," said J rg Nitschke, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications. "To coincide with the International Year of Light, we wanted to show as many people as possible just how important light is in our daily lives. Experiencing things for yourself and living moments of amazement and emotion thats what you get from this virtual journey tracing the phenomenon of light. Its experiences like this that trigger the desire to understand things and engage with physics and optics," Nitschke added.
The fulldome show was performed for the first time on February 27, 2015 at the Munich planetarium as the prelude to Germanys official program of activities for the International Year of Light. ZEISS and visuarte designed the seven-minute fulldome experience specifically to coincide with the Year of Light. "The fulldome projection is our way of tackling the theme of light in an emotional and educational way which will captivate a wide public both young and old, from beginners and hobbyists to experts in the field. We want to take people on a fascinating journey into the world of light and extend that opportunity worldwide," said producer and creative director Florian Rothenberger from visuarte. In addition to the considerable technical challenges, producing films for this medium also requires a very specific narrative style and dramatic flow as well as an appropriate image composition and visual aesthetic.
The short film is already available for planetariums worldwide to run in their dome theaters, and it will be showing at the ZEISS planetarium in Jena from May 27 to 30, 2015 at the fulldome festival. The Jena planetarium is equipped with a ZEISS VELVET fulldome projection system which offers outstanding fulldome quality thanks to its brilliant 360 degree video projection and spatialized sound. Visitors to the ZEISS Museum of Optics in Oberkochen will also get the chance to see the film at the on-site planetarium, which is the smallest in the world.
This years WorldMediaFestival also yielded a SILVER Award for the animated films developed by visuarte in collaboration with the ZEISS business group Vision Care. "When people buy eyeglasses they mostly focus on choosing a frame. When it comes to the lenses they simply trust the recommendations given by their eyecare professional," said Christine Lehmann von Lenski, the business groups marketing director. "This international series of edutainment films takes a multimedia approach to helping consumers experience the benefits of different ZEISS eyeglass lenses. Our goal is to motivate them to focus on the brand and the technology when it comes to choosing lenses, too." And its not only lenses that feature in the animated shorts and promotional films. Consumers also get the chance to learn something about ophthalmic optics, how the eye works, and how making a careful choice of the best lens for their individual needs can significantly improve their vision experience. The animated films are designed for worldwide use in more than 20 languages on the Internet, in training sessions, as consulting apps, and in social media contexts.
The WorldMediaFestival was launched in the year 2000 to promote the exchange of ideas and present new creative solutions. Each edition includes the annual intermedia-globe awards for outstanding solutions in corporate film, television, Web, Web TV, and print productions in the international arena.
