NFVF Igniting Youth Stories at Ster-Kinekor, Newtown Junction 30 June and 1 July 2018.

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, in partnership with SABC 1, Namibia Film Commission (NFC), and the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (KZNFC) will host the NFVF Igniting Youth Stories event at Ster-Kinekor, Newtown Junction on the 30th of June 2018 and the 1st of July 2018.

NFVF Igniting Youth Stories is a series of screenings of the short films produced under the NFVF's Youth Filmmakers Project. The project is an initiative driven by the NFVF in partnerships with the Namibia Film Commission (NFC), KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission (KZNFC), and SABC 1 as the broadcast partner.

The objective of the Youth Filmmakers Project is skills development. Young filmmakers are given an opportunity to develop, write, and direct short films under the guidance and mentorship of an experienced production company. However, it is also an opportunity to provide young black owned production companies a chance to be viable and sustainable.

The three-year contract was awarded to Triangle Post and Animation in 2017, and the short films that will be screened during NFVF Ignite Youth Stories are the first 10 short films produced from the project.

This is the first time that we screen the films produced under the current Youth Filmmakers Project, and it is a fitting way to conclude the commemoration of Youth Month. NFVF Igniting Youth Stories will serve a dual purpose; it will enable the young filmmakers and their families to see their work on the big screen while developing local audiences. Encouraging youth participation in the industry is important, young people bring fresh and different perspectives to our narratives, and it is important that they have platforms to express these ideas. says Shadrack Bokaba, Acting NFVF CEO

The NFVF acknowledges, the challenges faced by the youth and the barriers to entry that exist in the film and TV industry and remains committed to reducing these barriers. Our mandate is to ensure that the film and TV industry is accessible to all those who would like to participate in it.

There will be two free screenings per day and tickets will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. The morning screening will begin at 11h00 13h30, with registration opening between 10h30-10h45 while the afternoon screening will begin at 15h15 with registration from 14h30-15h00.
