Picturepark Video Converter for Digital Asset Management

Aarau, Switzerland - 19 August 2014 - The Picturepark Video Converter enables a Picturepark digital asset management (DAM) system to serve master video footage and audio in a virtually unlimited array of high-quality, multichannel-ready download formats. Based on award-winning Sorenson Media video processing technology, the Picturepark Video Converter is available now as part of the new Picturepark 8.7 release.

When it came to expanding our video handling and processing capabilities, Sorenson Media was an easy choice because their processing features are impressive and their output quality is legendary.

In addition to making audio and video available in many more formats than were previously available in Picturepark, the new Video Converter also enables Picturepark to accept inbound audio and video in more formats. Download formats are processed when video and audio masters are uploaded into Picturepark, so download requests start immediately.

The Picturepark digital asset management platform is a natural place to find Sorenson Media technologies, said Sorenson Media General Manager, Cathryne Robinson. With the addition of the Sorenson-powered Picturepark Video Converter, what was already a nice video archiving solution has now become a multi-format video download portal.

The Picturepark Video Converter is available at no additional charge to Picturepark Cloud customers. Licenses are available for Picturepark Onsite customers. No user re-training is required.

Also new in Picturepark 8.7 is support for larger data sets, which is useful when importing entire collections from file servers or other DAMs, or when uploading of thousands of files at a time, or files that exceed the file size limitations of browsers. Uploads can be paused at any point, which saves users from having to complete uploads before they can close laptops or switch networks. Metadata round-tripping to Excel has improved, with added support for data sets as large as Excel can handle, and use of the native Excel file format (xlsx) to increase reliability and reduce export/import complexity.

Additional interface enhancements have been made in the primary UI. Included is a new notifications and communications center through which users can track upload jobs, quickly load all assets from precious uploads, and receive system notifications.

Backend improvements include further additions to the HTML5-based Management Console, official support for newer Microsoft Windows and SQL Server versions, and architectural framework changes that will be needed for a planned user experience refresh.
