The Latino Film Institute (LFI) proudly unveiled 10 visionary directors selected for the 4th annual LFI Inclusion Fellowship. With support for the fourth consecutive year by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, each fellow will receive a $30,000 grant to produce a short film along with individualized mentorship and industry networking opportunities.
In a steadfast commitment to embracing diversity and richness within the Latino community, the LFI Inclusion Fellowship aims to amplify the voices of diverse Latino filmmakers and provide a platform for them to create and share stories that enrich the fabric of society. Embracing the spirit of inclusivity, LFI uplifts and empowers Latino filmmakers from all walks of life, acknowledging the undeniable talent and strength present within communities historically underrepresented in the film and television industry.
To date, the LFI Inclusion Fellowship has helped to propel the careers of 35 Latino filmmakers, with fellow alumni going on to produce feature films, secure representation and continue on to other prestigious fellowships. These incredible achievements underscore the deep impact of the Fellowship in championing authentic voices and moving forward the careers of diverse filmmakers.
"We are thrilled to introduce our fourth class of fellows who embody the incredible diversity and untapped potential within our community," stated Edward James Olmos, Academy Award -nominated actor and founder of LFI. "This fellowship reinforces our commitment to fostering underrepresented storytellers, and we are immensely grateful for Netflixs unwavering support in this mission."
Being part of the Inclusion Fellowship was an amazing step forward in my career, said Jalmer Caceres, Alumni of the 2022/2023 Fellowship. The program models the studio system, and provides the guidance and creative mentorship needed for us to succeed. It also creates space for the historically underrepresented to access high-level resources and opportunities. It was an experience that I will always cherish and be grateful for.
Completed films from the 4th annual LFI Inclusion Fellowship will screen at the 2024 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) held from May 29-June 2, 2024, where fellows will also participate in the festival's programming to further develop their skills and meet people in the industry.
