BACKENTERTAINMENT ONE ACQUIRES GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS TO SPANISH THRILLER OPERACI N MAREA NEGRADeal marks eOne's first original Spanish-language series, as part of its on-going strategy to acquire a robust slate of compelling dramas from across the globe
From Amazon Prime Video and Ficci n Producciones, the four-part series is inspired by the incredible true story of the first narco-submarine intercepted in Europe
London September 27, 2021 Entertainment One (eOne) announced today it has acquired the international distribution rights (outside of Spain and Portugal) to the epic drama based on real-life events - Operaci n Marea Negra. The four-part series from Amazon Prime Video and Ficci n Producciones centers on the first narco-submarine intercepted in Europe, the traffickers aboard the vessel, and the investigators in their pursuit. Brokered by Noel Hedges, eOne's EVP, Acquisitions, International Distribution, the deal marks eOne's first original Spanish-language acquisition.
With high-quality production values, a talented international cast, and a gripping tale at its core, this exceptional true story is destined to captivate audiences as a true-event miniseries, commented Hedges.
Set in November 2019 and inspired by real events, Operaci n Marea Negra follows three companions as they attempt to cross the Atlantic in a homemade sub loaded with more than 3,000 kilos of cocaine. While aboard, they fight for survival battling storms, unpredictable currents, hunger, infighting, and the authorities in this risky underwater adventure. lex Gonz lez (3 Caminos) stars as Nando, the ex-boxer and leader of the pack who turns to trafficking when his other financial options dry up. Joining him in the international cast are Nerea Barros (La Isla M nima), Nuno Lopes (White Lines), Miquel Insua (La Unidad), Luis Zahera (El Reino), Xos Barato (Alba), Carles Francino (Cable Girls), Manuel Manqui a (Antes de la quema), L cia Moniz (Love Actually), Lu s Esparteiro (Super Pai), David Trejos (Perdida), Leandro Firmino (Ciudadde Dios) and Bruno Galiasso (Marighella).

Other recent acquisitions include: the French-language series La Gar onne, which launched as France 2's #1 new scripted premiere for more than 10 months with five million viewers; Australian drama The Newsreader, starring Anna Torv (Fringe, Mindhunter) and Sam Reid (Prime Suspect 1973, Lambs of God), garnered great critical acclaim and launched as ABC's #1 drama of the day across all channels; eight-part Australian series Upright, starring Tony award-winning and Olivier award-winning writer, comedian and musician Tim Minchin (Matilda the Musical); the UK's highly anticipated psychological drama The Teacher, starring BAFTA Award winning actress Sheridan Smith (Cilla, The C Word); and Canadian legal procedural Family Law, starring Jewel Staite (Firefly) and Victor Garber (DC's Legends of Tomorrow).
Operaci n Marea Negra is produced by Ficci n Producciones (3 Roads, Unauthorised living), with Mamen Quintas and Julio Casal serving as executive producers together with the Portuguese Ukbar Filmes (El Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Gaza, Mon Amour). Co-producers are FORTA, led by TVG, and the Portuguese RTP. The series will be directed by Daniel Calparsoro, Oskar Santos (The Favorites of Midas, Hierro, Zipi and Zape and the Marble Club) and Jo o Maia.
