Online video now accounts for 70 percent of all internet traffic and this number is expected to grow exponentially as the sale of smart, mobile devices continue to radically outstrip demand for traditional set-top-boxes (STBs). In doing so, existing IP networks, already straining under the pressure of serving this volume of streamed content, will be pushed to their limits. In an attempt to cope with this unprecedented growth in demand for both on-demand and live video, mobile operators have traditionally thrown money at the problem; expanding their network capacity to deal with the explosion of video traffic flowing over their networks. Qwilt has developed a unified, off-the-shelf solution that combines open caching, video delivery and analytics technologies deployed at the subscriber edge. By caching popular content or trending titles (identified in real-time) in close proximity to end users, the need for redundant video streams from origin sites or CDNs across the operator network is eliminated. In turn, Qwilt speeds up video delivery time and minimises network strain and congestion especially during peak viewing times, for a flawless, high-quality consumer viewing experience.

At the show, Qwilt will also be making a significant partnership announcement, which provides a perfect example of innovation that prepares mobile operators for the future of streaming video.
