Avid Interplay Production | Facility Package Gives Air Post Production New Creative Edge 18 Jul 2013

Shoreditch-based Air Post Production, the post division of the Air Entertainment Group, has become one of the first facilities to take advantage of the Avid Interplay Production | Facility Package introduced at NAB 2013. The investment provides Air Post Production with an integrated and seamless production workflow, enabling greater collaboration and efficiency and faster delivery of higher-quality content to its clients.

Avid Interplay Production | Facility Package is a complete production workflow comprising the most up-to-date Avid technology including licenses of Avid Media Composer 7, Avid Symphony , Avid Interplay Sphere remote editing software, Avid ISIS shared storage and Avid Interplay Central which delivers cloud-based remote workflow options together with powerful and reliable production asset management.

To compete in today's HD tapeless workflow world, Air Post Production realised its workflow needed a complete technical overhaul. After assessing other production asset management and shared storage solutions on the market, and consulting with Avid Professional Services, Interplay Production | Facility Package was chosen to provide the complete end-to-end tapeless solution the facility required at a competitive price.

Ed Spencer, head of MCR at Air Post Production, who oversaw the workflow design, said: We pride ourselves on being workflow innovators. Therefore, as a predominantly Avid house the Interplay Production | Facility Package was the most innovative and cost-effective choice for us. It means our Pro Tools and Media Composer suites are fully integrated with Interplay Production and backed by a solid and reliable storage solution, ISIS 5000. The functionalities Interplay Production offers will dramatically speed up our clients' productivity and enable us to service our projects more efficiently.

As part of the new workflow, Air Post Production now has Interplay Sphere remote editing software. Lara Moody, Air Post Production's newly appointed facilities manager, commented: Being able to offer this process in-house will enable us to meet our clients' needs whilst offering the most advanced functionality on the market.

Avid Elite Reseller Altered Images was enlisted to implement the workflow. Installation began in mid-June and was completed in less than two weeks. Ed Spencer continues: The installation process was very smooth and didn't disrupt our workload. In fact, the 6TB data migration of our work in progress to the ISIS 5000 only took 27 hours, which was extremely impressive as we were then up and running.

As part of the upgrade, Air Post Production chose to upgrade its ISIS 5000 to 64TB and extend the Interplay Base client connections from 10 to 30. Additionally, six of its edit suites were updated with Media Composer Mojo DX hardware and HD monitoring, giving the facility the ability to use its offline suites for finishing. Air Post Production's first broadcast project to go through the new workflow will be Mox Production's Best In Town.
