You showrunner Sera Gamble revealed that the season four twist was in the making for several seasons of hit Netflix series - according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

SPOILER ALERT Sera Gamble, the showrunner for Netflix's You revealed that she had the season four twist in mind for several seasons. Main character, Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, is a serial killer, who seemed to believe he was always doing the right thing by killing people. Well, that was until season four when his conscious had caught up with him.

On the fourth and latest season, Joe took on the new name of Johnathan Moore as he moved to England to escape his past in Madre Linda. In Madre Linda, Joe faked his own death, murdered his wife Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) and left his son Henry with his friends. So, his move to England was yet another fresh start for him, but it seems death follows Joe.

Spoiler alert: Joe manifests a killer (Rhys Montrose played by Ed Speleers) in season four which is actually a figment of his imagination. So, the killer is actually him. He experiences some kind of rebirth and appears to be starting afresh - again, with new girlfriend Kate, played by Charlotte Ritchie.

YOU' SEASON FOUR TWIST WAS IN MIND FOR SEVERAL SEASONS' Gamble revealed that the idea had been in mind for several seasons.

We were then going back to the beginning of every single scene and tracking it with what happens when you find out what's really going on with Rhys. We had this in mind for several seasons, said Gamble to The Hollywood Reporter.

We started talking about it early. We didn't commit to it for this season until we knew we were doing the whodunnit, but we did keep a close eye on how crazy Joe was from season to season because we didn't want it to come completely out of left field, continued Gamble.

YOU' SEASON FIVE SHOWRUNNER WEIGHS IN ON JOE GOLDBERG Netflix has not yet announced whether there will be a season five of You. However, the series' showrunner Sera Gamble told E! News that viewers can expect a more dangerous Joe if the series returns for a fifth season.
