WRC SEASON GETS UNDERWAY IN MONTE CARLO - 25/01/2013 Less than a month after being officially appointed as the TV production partner for the 2013 FIA World Rally Championship season, HBS produced its first rally of the year in Monte Carlo last week. Due to the short lead-time between the companys appointment and the start of the season, the dedicated WRC team within HBS had worked through the companys weeklong Christmas closure to ensure all technical and logistical needs would be met. This investment paid off handsomely, with all production operations running smoothly during this first event of the season despite the unexpectedly heavy snow blanketing the roads of the traditionally temperate area and giving the event a somewhat charming retro feel.

In addition to daily news playouts from Wednesday to Sunday, HBS produced a 15-minute programme on Wednesday the 15th and 26-minute ones for Thursday, Friday and Saturdays competition. Due to the weather-related shortening of the Rally no daily programme was required on Sunday, but the company did produce a 52-minute final wrap-up covering the entire Rallye Monte Carlo including the final podium.
HBS had approximately 55 staff members on site for the Rallye Monte Carlo, of which 50 or so were dedicated to the actual production, broken down into seven camera crews as well as dedicated onboard and helicopter teams. Most personnel arrived on Friday the 11th, with an initial production recce taking place over the weekend, a good three days before the shakedown marking the start of the season. Despite a few growing pains caused by the reduced time frame for preparations, HBS staff worked in tight partnership with the FIA and the WRC promoters, the sportsman media group and Red Bull Media House, to deliver on the promoters expectations for the development of the series. All parties involved took part in post-event debriefings to pinpoint issues to be addressed or resolved in the coming weeks and months and HBS is confident that it will only improve its coverage over the course of the season.
