Digtal TV Research has released new intelligence on the global OTT TV market, forecasting global revenue from TV and movies will reach $210 billion in the next five years, with around $23 billion set to be accounted for in 2021. Revenues in 2020 reached $106 billion.
The research covers 138 countries worldwide, and reports that the top five countries, led by the US, will account for two-thirds of global OTT revenues by 2026, down from 71 per cent in 2020, pointing to faster rate of growth elsewhere the world.
The US will remain the dominant territory by some distance. Its share of global revenues will still be 42% by 2026. This market is far from mature, said Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research. US revenues will climb by $42 billion between 2020 and 2026 to reach $88 billion.
The research adds that of the $104 billion increase in revenues between over the next five years, China will increase by $8.4 billion to reach to $24 billion; Japan will double up from $4.5 billion to $9.2 billion; while India will see an increase of $4.7 billion to reach $6.7 billion.
SVoD revenues are reportedly set to climb by $59 billion between 2020 and 2026 to $126 billion, with SVoD's total share decreasing slightly from 62 per cent in 2020 to 60 percent in 2026. AVoD revenues will increase by $39 billion between 2020 and 2026 to $66 billion; 32 per cent of total OTT revenues by 2026, up from 26 per cent in 2020.
