Directed by Chiu Keng Guan, Think Big Big is set to release on 15 February
15 January 2018, Kuala Lumpur - It was in 1986 when Chiu Keng Guan came upon I Can Do It, So Can You, an autobiography by Taylor Gun-Jin Wang, a Chinese-born American scientist who became the first ethnic Chinese person to go into space. This was inspiring to young Chiu, as he soon found himself aspiring to become an astronaut.
Books have always been important to Chiu; motivating him as a child and influencing his works as an adult. Through his latest movie, Chiu is somewhat able to relive his childhood dream. Produced by Astro Shaw, Golden Screen Cinemas, Multimedia Entertainment and MM2 Entertainment, Think Big Big, which began production in August 2017 is finally ready for its cinema release nationwide on 15 February 2018.
Think Big Big tells the story of Moon, a confident plus-sized girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut. Brought up in a small town by her loving parents, she has always received unconditional love and support from them. Moon lives a carefree life; she is contented with her job as a mascot talent as she likes to bring happiness to everyone she meets. And then reality hits. Bogged down by debts, Moon is forced to participate in a competition which requires her to share her fitness journey on social media. With a strong Be Yourself' message, and a refreshing honesty about how social media has changed us, this heartwarming movie will leave you cherishing your time with your family and friends, and most importantly, learn how to love and accept yourself.
This is a story of loving yourself unconditionally, and not just the perfect shining outer self. Think Big Big will resonate strongly with majority of audiences as it highlights the beauty standards that are set in todays society. As the story develops, I hope it will spur audiences to believe in themselves and their dreams despite others' opinions, says Chiu. Growing up, Chiu has dreamt about being a footballer and astronaut, only to fulfill both through film making.
What's more meaningful for Chiu is that he is finally reunited with the cinematographer (Yong Choon Lin) and art director (Soon Yong Chow) from his acclaimed family-oriented Chinese New Year movies; WooHoo! (2010) and Great Day (2011). They are joined by 2016 Malaysia Film Festival Best Costume Designer Elaine Wong and local powerhouse singers Nicole Lai and Bell Yu who have contributed to the movie soundtracks, D D and W Men respectively.
Known for his unconventional choice of casting, Think Big Big will see 2016 Miss Astro Chinese International Pageant champion Serene Lim in the leading role, together with newcomer Fabian Loo, Moon Yoong, Joanne Lau, Vivienne Oon, Ruby Yap and Keigrey Kam.
