Big Sky Film Institute To Expand Partnership with Top Hat Lounge

The Big Sky Film Institute and the Top Hat Lounge are pleased to announce that the Big Sky Film Series, which has been running monthly at the Top Hat since May, will move to a weekly schedule beginning this fall. Additionally, the Top Hat Lounge will be an official Big Sky Documentary Film Festival screening and event venue during the entire 10-day festival in February 2014.

The folks at Big Sky have done an incredible job curating films for the series, and attendance has been outstanding, says Top Hat owner Nick Checota. We're extremely excited to expand those screenings to a weekly basis, and we couldn't be happier about becoming a part of the festival.

That enthusiasm is matched by Big Sky Film Institute Executive Director Doug Hawes-Davis. The Top Hat has proven to be everything we thought it could be as a venue - great picture, great sound, great food and drinks, and above all, a great atmosphere, he says. We look forward to a long and robust relationship with the Top Hat, on a year-round basis with the film series and as a key venue for the festival.

The Big Sky Film Series continues on Monday, October 21 with YEAR OF THE HORSE, the classic 1997 Jim Jarmusch film about legendary rockers Neil Young & Crazy Horse. The following week will feature a special screening of a brand new Montana-made doc, INDIAN RELAY, several days before its national PBS broadcast on the acclaimed series Independent Lens.

The new documentary by Montana filmmaker, Charles Dye, showcases the hopes and determination of modern-day American Indians in Montana as they work to win one of the most exciting and perilous forms of horse racing practiced anywhere in the world. From the bitter cold of winter on the Rocky Mountain Front to the heat and mayhem of the summer's championship races in Montana and Idaho, INDIAN RELAY follows three teams from different American Indian communities as they prepare for and compete in a grueling Indian Relay season - all hearts set on the glory and honor of winning an Indian Relay National Championship.
