Las conexiones a 5G en el mundo ya suman 63,6 millones En este momento existen ya en todo el mundo 82 redes 5G comerciales operativas y m s de un centenar de dispositivos con capacidad 5G.
El avance de la 5G en conexiones y despliegues contin a a pesar de la pandemia por COVID-19 y la consiguiente desaceleraci n econ mica, seg n 5G Americas, la asociaci n de la industria y la voz de la 5G y LTE para Am rica. Seg n datos de Omdia, al 1T 2020, ya hab a m s de 63,6 millones de conexiones 5G mundialmente, lo que representa un crecimiento del 308,66% respecto del 4T 2019.
Chris Pearson, presidente de 5G Americas, destaca que mundialmente, 5G contin a siendo la generaci n de tecnolog a inal mbrica celular m s veloz de la historia, incluso en medio de la pandemia que azota al mundo. En Am rica del Norte, estamos viendo un aumento fuerte y consistente de nuevos suscriptores a 5G al tiempo que se lanzaron nuevos dispositivos que pueden aprovechar las frecuencias de ondas de bandas bajas y milim tricas. Al mismo tiempo, se est n sumando nuevas capacidades de red .
En el mundo, actualmente existen 82 redes 5G comerciales, una cifra que se multiplicar a por m s de dos para ubicarse en 206 al t rmino de 2020, seg n datos de TeleGeography. Adem s, ya hay m s de 100 modelos de dispositivos 5G comerciales disponibles en el mundo, seg n el informe Ericsson Mobility June 2020, con un respaldo creciente para las bandas de frecuencias bajas, medias y milim tricas (mmWave).
Pese a la fortaleza global dada por la cantidad de despliegues de redes 5G, comienzan a surgir diferencias regionales debido a los impactos localizados de la pandemia por COVID-19. Seg n Jos Otero, vicepresidente para Am rica Latina y el Caribe de 5G Americas, el impacto de COVID-19 finalmente se est sintiendo en la industria de las telecomunicaciones de Am rica Latina y el Caribe. La reducci n en las remesas que llegan desde Europa y Am rica del Norte sumada a los cierres obligatorios impuestos por muchos gobiernos regionales redujo el poder adquisitivo de un gran porcentaje de la poblaci n .
Crecimiento por regiones En el nivel regional, al t rmino del 1T 2020, Am rica del Norte ten a 1,18 millones de conexiones 5G y 494 millones de conexiones LTE. Esto significaba un crecimiento del 100% en 5G, una ganancia de 591.000 conexiones 5G durante el trimestre y un crecimiento del 2,34% para LTE, aumentando 11,3 millones de conexiones LTE durante el trimestre. Para Am rica Latina y el Caribe, el T1 2020 vio 3.004 suscripciones 5G (142.85% de crecimiento del T4 2019 al T1 2020) y 372 millones de suscripciones LTE (3% del T4 2019 al T1 2020), respectivamente.
Hacia el futuro, Omdia proyecta que las conexiones 5G alcanzar n 238 millones en el mundo para fines de 2020, de las cuales Am rica del Norte representar 10 millones de conexiones. Seg n Kristin Paulin, Analista Senior de Omdia, prevemos que el crecimiento aumentar en el segundo semestre del a o, luego de la liberaci n de los confinamientos, adem s de la continua expansi n de las redes 5G y la disponibilidad de m s dispositivos 5G .
Am rica Latina y el Caribe representar 270.000 conexiones adicionales para fin de a o. Las conexiones mundiales a LTE de 4G permanecen fuertes y se prev que alcancen los 5.700 millones, de los cuales 506 millones (4.8% de crecimiento anual) provendr n de Am rica del Norte y 404 millones (11.8% de crecimiento anual) corresponder n a Am rica Latina y el Caribe.
Para minimizar el impacto de la pandemia, algunos gobiernos de Am rica Latina y el Caribe han realizado ajustes a los impuestos y t rminos de los servicios de comunicaciones. Adem s, Otero afirma que la falta de dispositivos ocasionada por obst culos globales de log stica redund en un crecimiento negativo de la cantidad de suscriptores y una menor adopci n de tecnolog as m s nuevas. Se prev que hasta tanto se normalice la situaci n, se demorar n todos los procesos de asignaci n de espectro, y no se lanzar n nuevas redes durante este per odo .
