You are a young African filmmaker looking for an international training platform to develop your new documentary film project? DOK.fest M nchen together with the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and in cooperation with the University for Television and Film Munich (HFF) offers a Residency Programme accompanied by training in scriptwriting, financing and pitching.
DOK.network Africa Residency
The Residency at Ebenb ckhaus (2nd March - 14th May, 2018)
The DOK.network Africa residency is aimed at supporting filmmakers from African countries to develop their feature length documentary film projects at the international level. Thanks to our funding partners we can offer two scholarships including travel costs to and from Munich, a mentoring and training programme, monthly allowance of 1,200 Euros and accommodation in the artist-residency premises at the Ebenb ckhaus of the City of Munich. The residency programme will last from 2nd March until 14th May, 2018.

The Training Programme
As part of the Residency, the training programme in cooperation with the University for Television and Film Munich (HFF) will include workshops and mentoring in the following areas:
Treatment development
Scriptwriting
Budgeting and financing
Pitching training and the production of a pitch
The International Office of HFF will support the residents during their stay in Munich and facilitate access to university.
Pitching at DOK.fest M nchen
The residents will have the opportunity to pitch their projects at the industry platform of DOK.fest M nchen, the DOK.forum Marketplace (3rd - 6th May, 2018). At selected roundtables, all participating filmmakers will be invited to discuss and further develop their projects with producers, commissioning editors, distributors and sales agents especially interested in African content. The objective is to facilitate new co-productions through targeted matchmaking. The residents will get full accreditation for the 33rd DOK.fest M nchen from 2nd to 13th May, 2018.
Participation conditions
We invite all filmmakers who
are younger than 35 years old
hold the citizenship of an African country and primarily live and work in Africa.
currently work on a feature-length documentary film (minimum 52 min.) which is supposed to be shot and produced in an African country
are fluent in the English language, in both its written and spoken form
to apply for the DOK.network Africa Residency Programme.

Selection Process
The selection jury will consist of DOK.fest Munich and HFF Munich representatives. All applicants will be informed until February 2018.
DOK.network Africa at DOK.fest M nchen
With over 46,000 visitors, DOK.fest is Germanys largest and most dynamically growing documentary film festival. Every year in May, the festival presents the most interesting and relevant international documentaries on the big screen.
The DOK.network Africa section at DOK.fest M nchen has been focusing on documentary films from and about Africa as well as intercultural exchange, since 2013. So far the network has invited filmmakers, protagonists and festival representatives from Burkina Faso, Senegal, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe to Munich. The network includes film festival partnerships with the iREP International Documentary Film festival in Lagos, Nigeria, the Zimbabwe International Film festival in Harare, Zimbabwe, and the ENCOUNTERS International and South African Documentary Film Festival in Capetown, South Africa.
