4 September 2013, Berlin: Sony Corporation ( Sony ) today unveiled an array of breathtaking new products that will dramatically enhance the way consumers play, watch, listen and create.
Kazuo Hirai, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sony Corporation, unveiled the latest product offerings at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin marking a new milestone for the group's electronics' businesses as it accelerates its revitalisation program.
The product offensive, led by a new flagship smartphone - Xperia Z1 - aims to harness the true power of One Sony by combining Sony's industry leading technologies and cutting-edge design to deliver first-class experiences that are set to excite and inspire.
The Xperia Z1 combines Sonys latest mobile and imaging technologies in a superbly-designed package, offering unrivalled camera capabilities, a suite of unique smart social camera applications and instant access to amazing entertainment experiences.
Mr Hirai said: Xperia Z1 is a watershed moment for Sony. It marks the first time we've concentrated so many leading technologies, together with our full suite of entertainment content services, all in a single, beautifully designed mobile product.
Only Sony has the broad and deep technology, plus the consumer electronics experience and most of all the benefit of customer dialogue to bring this sort of smartphone to market.
Products unveiled at IFA in Berlin include:
Xperia Z1
Xperia Z1 is a premium waterproof smartphone that combines the very best of Sony's technology, entertainment, design and connectivity with a unique and ground-breaking camera experience. It offers the same level of quality and performance as a compact digital camera. Its superb camera performance is delivered through a unique combination of Sony's award-winning G Lens tm, large 1/2.3 CMOS image sensor Exmor RS for mobile mobile sensor and BIONZ for mobile image processing engine. It also boasts an innovative suite of Xperia Camera Applications that deliver unique experiences from the camera viewfinder, including live social broadcasting and an innovative visual search function with many more available to download in the future through Sony's network of developer partnerships.
After taking photos, users can instantly auto-upload all their photos to PlayMemories Online, a cloud-based image storage service that includes a new All-sync feature. The service - due to be extended to more European countries later this year - allows you to access this library anytime, whether from a smartphone, tablet or PC. Xperia Z1 is also supported by a range of companion products that enrich the smartphone experience.
The Cyber-shot DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100
The Cyber-shot DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 introduce a brand new concept in digital imaging. Turning your smartphone into a power-packed specialist camera they are the perfect partner for smartphones including the new Xperia Z1. Linking wirelessly with your phone, they can be used as an attachment or separately. They boast a high resolution sensor, optical zoom, Optical SteadyShot and manual controls, with Wi-Fi and NFC for easy One-touch function and the ability to shoot HD video.
FDR-AX1 4K Handycam
After pioneering 4K in the professional world and bringing it to customer-homes with BRAVIA 4K TV, Sony has launched the FDR-AX1, enabling users to shoot their precious memories with unrivalled resolution quality.
VAIO Fit multi-flip PC 15A/14A/13A/11A
VAIO Fit multi-flip PC is a premium multi-flipTM PC. The unique design allows users to transform from laptop mode to the touch responsive tablet mode by simply flipping the screen. Users can also flip the screen over to take advantage of viewer mode; a form that can be used to show the screen to someone sitting opposite of you. The new VAIO Inspiration Stream feature provides a seamless content experience for capturing, editing and organising whilst the addition of a digitizer stylus, bundled into VAIO Fit 13*, allows for further creative expression.
High Resolution Audio
High-Resolution audio technology compatible products such as HDD audio players, stereo and DAC amplifiers, and portable audio such as headphones and Walkman will be introduced. These audio systems faithfully reproduce every single detail of the audio spectrum. They also feature new technologies capable of recreating sounds lost during compression, so even highly compressed audio files can be played back in the highest possible quality.
4K VPL-VW500ES home cinema projector
The VPL-VW500ES brings the 4K cinema experience into the home like never before and reinforces Sony's commitment to lead in 4K innovation, from lens to living room. The 4K SXRD panels provide unrivalled picture quality at high resolution whilst also dramatically enhancing high definition 1080p content, allowing viewers to enjoy 4K images with their existing Blu-ray Discs, even in 3D. Utilising Sonys experience in the digital cinema market, the VPL-VW500ES is able to deliver an unrivalled 4K user experience for the home.
Announcing the products at the Sony press conference in Berlin, Kazuo Hirai said: Each of these is a symbol of Sony's product-led revival. These products will dramatically enhance the way you play, watch, listen and create.
