Tune In For WRAL-TV s 7 Annual Coats for the Children Teleon Today

Right now, over 8,800 Wake County children need a warm coat and will not have a new toy this holiday season unless we help. In Durham, Orange and Person counties, 1,200 children are in need. In Johnston County, over 1,100 are longing to be warm this winter. And in Cumberland County, close to 3,000 children need warm coats now and new toys for the holiday season.

WRAL-TV is working with the Salvation Army to help these children. The 27th Annual WRALTV Coats for the Children takes place today, Friday, December 11, 2015 from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The big telethon kicks off at 6 a.m., with special coverage at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m on air and online.

Coats For the Children is WRAL's major holiday fundraising campaign for Salvation Army families. A coat your child has outgrown is just the right size for a child in need. We're also collecting new toys to make the holiday brighter for children at the Salvation Army.

Since 1989, thanks to your generosity, WRAL has collected over 155,000 coats and raised $1,608,000 million to provide winter clothing for Salvation Army families.

Each of us grab one on the way out the door each morning, but never think that there are hundreds maybe thousands of children in our area that do not have a coat, said Major Pete Costas, area commander of The Salvation Army of Wake County.

The Coats for the Children campaign is not only essential to these children but it is life changing. The warmth a coat provides goes far beyond protection from the cold. It provides hope to that child in their time of need.
