Felix wins big at AFRIFF

The African International Film Festival is a world class showcase that presents a complete immersion into the world of film making with participation from local and international filmmakers and professionals, celebrities, actors, directors, film critics, buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, equipment manufacturers, and international press.

Felix has continued to make its rounds at various film festivals and has consistently done exceptionally well. In addition to AFRIFF Felix has won the following awards:

The Audience Award at Durban International Film festival

The Lucas award for best film at the Lucas International Childrens Film Festival in Frankfurt

The Michel award for best children and youth film at the Filmfest Hamburg and;

Following its success at the aforementioned film festivals, the international profile of this feel-good film has greatly developed and the film has been successfully screened at several international film festivals around the globe where audiences have experienced very moving responses to the story and its characters.

All of the screenings have been sold out. These festivals include:

Rwanda Film Festival (12 -27July 2013), Durban International Film Festival (18 - 28 July 2013), Lucas InternationalChildren's Film Festival (Frankfurt, 22 -29 September 2013), Filmfest Hamburg (26 September - 5 October 2013), Vancouver International Film Festival (26 September - 11 November 2013), BFI London International Film Festival (9 - 20 October 2013) and Africa International Film festival (Nigeria, 10 - 17 November 2013).

Felix has yet to be screened at the following film festivals: International Young Audience Film Festival Ale Kino! (Poland), Belmont World Film (Massachusetts), G teborg International Film Festival (Sweden), Glasgow Film Festival (Scotland), Powell River Film Festival (Canada), Sehpferdchen (Little See-Horse) - Filmfest for Generations (Hannover and Braunschweig), Keswick Film Festival (Cumbria, UK), Reel 2 Real International Film festival for Youth (Vancouver), Vancouver South African Film Festival and TIFF Kids (Toronto).

Due to popular demand Felix will return to the big screen at the Labia Theatre in Cape Town in December. The DVD will be available in rentalstores from 6 January 2014; and in retail stores from 20 January 2014.

In Felix, 14-year-old Felix Xaba (Hlayani Junior Mabasa) dreams of becoming a saxophonist like his late father, but his mother Lindiwe (Linda Sokhulu) thinks jazz is the devil's music. When Felix leaves his township friends to take up a scholarship for grade eight at an elitist private school, he defies his mother and turns to two aging members of his father's old band (Royston Stoffels and Thapelo Mofokeng) to help him prepare for the school jazz concert.

Felix is a Penguin Films production for Sabido Productions, distributed by Crystal Brook Distribution. Felix will be on the big screen at the Labia Theatre in Cape Town in December and the DVD will be available in rental stores from 6 January 2014; and in retail stores from 20 January 2014.
