Rycote Announces collaboration with RDE Microphones

Rycote, the UK-based manufacturer of advanced microphone windshields and suspension systems, today announced a strategic collaboration with RDE Microphones of Australia. Under the terms of the new arrangement, RDE will be including patented Lyre technology with selected microphones, beginning with the popular VideoMic range, designed for use with camcorders and video-capable DSLRs. All future RDE microphones that include Rycotes technology will be prominently branded Rycote Onboard on their packaging and other marketing materials.

The Lyre is a non-elasticated suspension web composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic, Hytrel, and is markedly more effective at acoustically decoupling microphones from unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than elasticated suspensions. Since 2008 the world-patented Lyre design has featured in many successful Rycote and OEM products aimed at broadcast and film applications, as well as in popular suspensions for the pro audio/MI and video production markets, including products aimed at video production on DSLR cameras. Remaining effective at temperatures between -35 and +40C, the Lyre is virtually indestructible, and never wears out, sags, snaps, or needs rethreading to maintain its effectiveness.

The collaboration reflects the leading position of Rycote in the field of microphone suspensions, and RDEs confidence in the design capabilities of Rycote.
