Random Aignments in Rio for DBBC Announcer

From watching the heart-breaking semifinal loss of Kerri Walsh-Jennings and April Ross, to cheering with The Today Show stars, from calling men's volleyball, to rubbing elbows with USA gymnastics royalty, the Rio run of DBBC Announcer/Account Executive Patrick Kinas goes on. He finished his gig calling swimming events when that portion of the 2016 Summer Olympics drew to a close last weekend, so he's now bouncing around calling random events for Westwood One Radio. Thankfully, he's still sharing a daily pictorial diary, and allowing capcom to share his journey in turn. Here's the latest:

Day 10 in Rio, which was my 1st non-14 hour day, so not much in way of exciting photos, covering only the men's volleyball straight-set win over Mexico. So short of posting a picture of me napping for 4 hours and waking up with no concept of day or time (when, in fact it was 9pm on Monday night), here are a few random shots from the day.

Heading to Maracanazinho now for knockout quarterfinal between USA women and Japan, then back to Copacabana at midnight for Walsh-Jennings against Brazil in semis of beach volleyball. THAT will be epic.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Olympic pin trading is a major hobby for many regulars. This is a section of about a 24 sq ft area just outside security where people are trading and/or buying. My dad would have a lot of fun negotiating for these.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Last day in Rio for the sweetest American gymnast Amanda Borden. Shes been our supreme analyst with Sam Gore, and like ships passing in the night, we wanted a pic before she heads out. (Gold, 1996. Look her up if you dont know she and her teams place in Olympic history).

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: The captain of our crew -and the guy who stuck his neck out to get me to Rio - Mike Eaby from Westwood One. Hes lobbying me for a tryout with Jared Sandberg and the Durham Bulls. He said he can hit .200 and pitch 70mph, to which I responded youll fit right in. Full disclosure, his 70mph is NOT a knuckleball.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Not the breakfast of champions, but when youre hungry and on the run, you combine all meals together- hence the bacon, watermelon, kiwi and boneless ribeye at 11am.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Heres the roommate I never see at the condo, Kevin Kugler from Westwood One and the Big Ten Network. For a minute this morning, I though he was a burglar.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: After said four-hour nap yesterday, body clock was totally out of whack, so a 3am strawberry Caipirinha at the bar was scheduled on my calendar. Sitting under the warm Rio night taking in the moment was my second best decision of the day. First was still the nap.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: USAs Sarah Robles, who won USAs first weightlifting medal since 2000. She was a guest on last nights Tonight In Rio, and was absolutely hysterical. LA Rams and USC football pre-game host Steve Mason on the left, who also hosts a huge LA sports talk show - and Kevin Kugler on the right.

Day 11 in Rio in the books,and now the days honestly are running together. Pretty sure there were great moments and tough losses. But I'm still waking up and seeing Olympic Rings, so life is pretty good. All I remember is getting back to the condo at 3:45am. # GoOlympics

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Was hanging with Al Roker and the Today Show crew before the Kerri Walsh-Jennings/April Ross midnight match against Brazil, then we all belted out the US national anthem. Pretty cool moment. Al then started the U-S-A chant.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Today Shows Savannah Guthrie talking to Walsh-Jennings and Ross after their stunning loss in the semis against Brazil. Walsh-Jennings had never lost an Olympic match (26-0) and was the 3-time defending Olympic gold medalist.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Believe it or not, this picture doesnt do full justice to how beautiful Copacabana Beach is. During the day, the Atlantic Ocean is in full view just beyond the Olympic Rings. Even at night, looking in the right spot, you can see the waves crashing in.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: Olympian Julie Ertel and I just before the beach semifinal. Julie won silver in 2000 in water polo and the made Team USAs a triathlete in 2008. She and I had identical ideas to go see Al Roker. Upon returning to our press tribune, I raced her up the stairs and won. Shell be sending me her medal in 2-to-6 weeks.

From DBBCs Patrick Kinas: 80,000 downtrodden faces of Brazilians flooding the streets after their womens soccer team was upset by Sweden. I was simply waiting for the media bus after volleyball. The every-30-minute bus managed to get through the humanity in 2 hours to take us back to the IBC.
