Jamie Oliver Helps Danes Save Money

Save with Jamie: Shop Smart, Cook Clever, Waste Less launched this week internationally. The popular English chef Jamie Oliver invited Danish Broadcasting's culture guru Niels Frid-Nielsen to London for a fireside chat in his kitchen to be broadcast on DR2 Morgen .

Jamie, a bestselling author, does not need to do much PR for his books. Only one day was scheduled, which was packed with media interviews both live and recorded for the print press, radio and TV. In between he also picked up a fellowship from The Royal College of General Practitioners for his work in tackling child obesity.

Within Jamie's busy schedule, Danish Broadcasting was given just 30 minutes to get into the kitchen, setup two cameras and microphones, film the interview and leave the location quietly whilst the next journalist would already be doing their interview.

Danish Broadcasting asked @madsvid to provide UK production services. A pre-filming visit was made to the location to meet Jamie's PA, determine requirements and take pictures for camera placement. A Video camera supplier was contacted to provide two cameras to match DR's specifications, tripods, radio microphones and using Jamie's own studio lights. A plan was agreed with the TV presenter Niels Frid-Nielsen, which included meeting him straight from the airport for a final briefing and a good excuse to try out the delicious lunch menu at Jamie's Fifteen Restaurant close to the location.

On arrival Jamie's PA decided that Niels was the Danish Broadcasting's answer to BBC Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson. From that point onwards, there was a fun filled interview, with more extras than could ever be fitted into the already extended broadcast itself.

Reaching out on Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is important for informing fans and viewers alike about upcoming events on TV. Even before arriving we were posting pictures to Twitter. At the studio the crew made sure to produce still pictures in addition to video.

On departure the source footage was taken back to base for uploading to Danish Broadcasting media servers. Two videos were produced from the excess footage to go on YouTube the day before the morning broadcast and the press stills were enhanced in Photoshop for use on Facebook. The audio sound bites from the interview was used in a radio feature on Danish Broadcasting's station 1.
