ZEISS presents premium intraocular lenses now also available for astigmatism patients

Today, cataract patients can rightly expect excellent results from surgery, also in regard to the increasing quality of ametropia and astigmatism correction.

The new AT LISA tri toric premium intraocular lens now enables an almost natural visual experience in the near, far and intermediate ranges, also for patients with astigmatism. "With the AT LISA family, patients are no longer reliant on a visual device in the vast majority of cases. With our consistently expanded portfolio of preloaded IOLs, we are assisting ophthalmologists in also providing comfortable vision to cataract patients with astigmatism," says Ludwin Monz.

Advanced Power Modulation: reduction of phaco energy, increased anterior chamber stability

With its Advanced Power Modulation, the ZEISS Visalis 500 phaco system ensures that the ophthalmologist can clearly reduce the phaco energy and better control the fluidics. The reduction of the energy leads not only to increased stability of the anterior chamber, but also to better protection of the corneal epithelium.

From biometry and implantation to the alignment of toric IOLs: ZEISS Cataract Suite optimizes the markerless workflow

For toric intraocular lenses in particular, precise positioning is of key importance in determining the patients quality of vision after surgery. "With our Cataract Suite we are supporting surgeons in meeting these high expectations," says Ludwin Monz .

In the ZEISS Cataract Suite markerless several products interact smoothly and seamlessly with each other. Reference images captured with the IOLMaster 500 biometry system can be transmitted by means of the FORUM data management system and combined in color and maximum resolution with the CALLISTO eye OP assistance system in the eyepiece of the surgical microscope. This direct projection allows surgeons to precisely align toric IOLs without having to look up from the surgical field. The elimination of manual marking also makes the treatment considerably more comfortable for the patient, also ruling out the possibility of errors being made through smudging of the marking.

Combining perimetry and OCT effectively: FORUM Glaucoma Workplace from ZEISS supports clinical decision-making in glaucoma treatment

FORUM Glaucoma Workplace, an application of the already widely used FORUM data management system, permits interactive, system-independent determination of visual field data. Ophthalmologists and hospital staff can analyze the data from the Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA), including the results of the Guide Progression Analysis (GPA), interactively and independently of the diagnosis room and measuring system. In addition, OCT data can be quickly visualized and the clinical information quickly transferred to a joint view thanks to improved navigation.

"Our FORUM Glaucoma Workplace allows our customers to see glaucoma pathologies in a totally different light," says Ludwin Monz. "In addition to better practice efficiency, the new application also supports ophthalmologists in the evaluation of relevant clinical case data."

Based on experience, tailored to todays needs: the new MEL 90 excimer laser from ZEISS makes refractive surgery more effective and cost-efficient

At the ESCRS Carl Zeiss Meditec AG is also presenting a new, innovative excimer laser for laser refractive correction. "In the new MEL 90 we are building on our many years of experience in the field of excimer lasers and introducing innovations that are precisely tailored to the needs of todays ophthalmologists," says Ludwin Monz. The new ZEISS excimer laser is a flying spot laser with a laser beam diameter of only 0.7 millimeters. This means that the cornea is modeled with extreme exactness, resulting in a very smooth surface. In addition, the MEL 90 offers various possibilities for customization and shortens the treatment time to the benefit of both doctor and patient. Overall, the work of refractive surgeons becomes more effective and cost-efficient through simplification of treatment planning and collaboration between the surgeon and his or her assistants.
