KeySmith.biz Offers Invitation-only Access to Easy Key Management Service for Independent Filmmakers & Postproduction Facilities
At NAB, Qube Cinema will launch invitation-only access to its new KeySmith.biz website, a powerful key management and reporting service for independent filmmakers, small distributors and compact postproduction facilities. KeySmith.biz allows filmmakers to generate KDMs for their DCPs, by accessing a comprehensive Theatre Database that is continuously updated through strategic regional partners and crowdsourcing. KeySmith.biz is protected by FIPS 140-2 certified hardware security modules.
As per the DCI specifications, DCPs can be encrypted. KeySmith.biz gives filmmakers the power to decide who can decrypt and playback their DCPs. Users select theaters from the Theatre Database and generate the required KDMs that will unlock the DCP for each selected theatre. Each KDM is tied to the unique identity of the digital cinema equipment from the Theatre Database. KeySmith.biz can directly deliver the KDMs to the theaters via email and will also support the Theatre Key Retrieval protocol (TKR) now recommended by the ISDCF. KeySmith.biz has comprehensive reporting capabilities that allow the user to keep track of all their KDM logistics.
We're empowering the independent filmmaker, small distributor and postproduction facility who previously would not have encrypted their DCPs simply to avoid the hassles of KDM logistics, said Eric Bergez, director of sales and marketing for Qube Cinema. With KeySmith.biz, filmmakers can now encrypt all their DCPs and thus protect their intellectual property while still having convenient access to the required KDMs for QC, screenings and worldwide distribution. Especially now, with film festivals requiring DCPs, KeySmith.biz will keep your content secure and easily accessible even during the chaos of a festival.
KeySmith.biz also has a powerful API that allows for seamless integration of the KDM Service with any digital cinema mastering system. Qube Cinema will be announcing soon that its own QubeMaster Xpress for Windows and QubeMaster Xport for Mac will have Keysmith.biz integration.
