Event to Benefit Step Up Women's Network and Address Accomplishments and Challenges Working Women Face Today
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF., October 29, 2013 -- LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network, partners with leading entrepreneur, Rachel Zoe, to launch The LinkedIn Discussion Series, a program that connects LinkedIn members directly with business thought leaders. This LinkedIn event will support Step Up Women's Network, and also welcome Zoe as the latest addition to the LinkedIn Influencer program, an exclusive group of around 450 of the world's top thought leaders who share their professional insights with the professional network's more than 238 million members.
Ignited by findings from the recent LinkedIn What Women Want @ Work study, The LinkedIn Discussion Series will bring together top business executives to discuss the accomplishments and challenges working women experience today. Zoe will be joined by Jenni Luke, CEO of Step Up, as well as Nicole Williams, LinkedIn career expert and best-selling author. Together they will share personal perspectives on this topic and facilitate an engaging discussion surrounding the role of women in the workplace.
I am thrilled to contribute to The LinkedIn Discussion Series and this very important conversation surrounding what it means to be a modern female professional, said Rachel Zoe, designer, stylist, author, and entrepreneur. It's critical to continue to discuss ways in which women can be empowered, especially in the workplace, and I am so honored to join LinkedIn and Step Up Women's Network to highlight the achievements and challenges that many professional women face today.
According to the LinkedIn What Women Want @ Work study, the majority of women (60 percent) across the United States identify work-life balance as the most important factor when defining professional success. The study also found that women in the U.S. feel confident about their careers and are optimistic about their ability to have a fulfilling work and family life, with an overwhelming 84 percent of U.S. respondents stating that they consider their careers to be successful.
For today's professional women, the definition of a successful career has shifted and is more than just positions of power or a higher salary, said Nicole Williams, LinkedIn's career expert and best-selling author. Rachel Zoe's innovative business approach, varied entrepreneurial endeavors and unprecedented career trajectory exemplify what it means to be a dynamic female professional today. She is a rolemodel for modern, working women everywhere.
The event, taking place in Los Angeles, will benefit Step Up, a non-profit membership organization that creates and implements impactful after-school and weekend programs that empower teen girls from under-resourced communities to be confident, college-bound and career-ready.
We are truly inspired by the dedication of Rachel Zoe and LinkedIn to support and inform women when it comes to their role in the workplace, Jenni Luke, Step Up CEO said. Step Up is committed to ensuring women and girls have the tools they need to create a better future, and we are honored to be a part of The LinkedIn Discussion Series to further this conversation among women of all ages and backgrounds across the country.

*About What Women Want @ Work' Study by LinkedIn and Cross Tab Research
In February 2013 LinkedIn partnered with Cross-Tab to survey more than 400 working women across the United States. Respondents between the ages of 18-65 were surveyed in all 50 states to better understand the challenges that women face in their careers, how women have viewed success in the past and what success means now, if professional American women believe they can balance work and family and how online networks can help them with their careers.
