The Emmys: A good night for Breaking Bad --

Breaking Bad and Modern Family dominated the spotlight at the 65th primetime Emmy awards held in Los Angeles, California on Sunday 22 September.

For the first time, AMC s Breaking Bad took home the outstanding drama series award and earned a second Emmy when Anna Gunn won for best supporting actress. Modern Family continued to conquer, snagging outstanding comedy for the fourth year running.

The Colbert Report triumphed over The Daily Show in the outstanding variety series category, making it the first show to claim the winning title after a 10-year reign. The Colbert rReport also took an Emmy for outstanding writing for a variety series.

An unpredictable evening saw awards go to Jeff Daniels for best comedy actor in The Newsroom, and to The Voice for outstanding reality competition series. Derek Hough of ABC s Dancing with the Stars won an Emmy for outstanding choreography, an awards first for new choreography category.

Repeat awards were given to lead actress Claire Danes for her role in Homeland and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the comedy Veep while Big Bang Theory s Jim Parsons won the Emmy for outstanding lead comedy actor for the third time.
