The BBC has ordered Quantel Enterprise sQ systems for its Wales news production operation. This will form part of an integrated solution with Jupiter/Quantel systems that are already installed at the new Salford site, the newly refurbished New Broadcasting House in London, as well as the Millbank political unit and 12 English regions. The Wales system also exploits the power of QTube connected workflows to give five regional bureaux and field users the ability to work with local and centrally held media.
The existing Broadcasting House site in Cardiff will be home to a Quantel Enterprise sQ system that includes 2000 hours of storage with 70 sQ View and 50 sQ Cut desktop review and editing clients, three sQ Edit applications and three Qube craft editors. Three Final Cut Pro editors are also integrated into the Quantel workflow. File ingest is handled by two sQ Load applications, with playback via sQ Play.
A second Enterprise sQ is being installed at the broadcasters Bangor facility in the Northwest of Wales, with 22 sQ View and 16 sQ Cut clients, and two Qube craft editors. A Final Cut Pro editor is also integrated into the workflow. File ingest is handled by sQ Load.
Quantels QTube connected workflow technology will also play a role in the Wales operation. The Ty Hywel (Welsh Assembly), Swansea, Carmarthen, Aberystwyth and Wrexham bureaux will all be equipped with multiple QTube Edit clients, and a further 11 QTube Edit clients will also enable journalists and editors to work on location or from home. In all cases, users will be able to combine locally shot material with media held on the Cardiff and Bangor Enterprise sQ systems to produce finished pieces remotely.
