TCM Remembers Ruby Dee with Dramatic Double Feature on June 28

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will remember actress-author-poet-activist Ruby Dee with a powerful double feature on Saturday, June 28.

The memorial tribute will begin at 4:15 p.m. (ET) with the Martin Ritt-directed drama The Edge of the City (1957), a story of union racketeering on the New York City waterfront. Dee co-stars with Sidney Poitier, John Cassavetes and Jack Warden.

At 5:45 p.m. (ET), its Daniel Petries film adaptation of A Raisin in the Sun (1961), Lorraine Hansberry play about a struggling Chicago family. In addition to Dee, the film stars Sidney Poitier, Claudia McNeil, Diana Sands, Ivan Dixon and Louis Gossett.

A longtime member of the Turner Classic Movies family, Dee and her husband, Ossie Davis, hosted TCMs A Separate Cinema, a 29-film collection examining African-American films, in 1998. Dee passed away on June 11 at the age of 91.

TCMs memorial tribute to Ruby Dee will be introduced by TCM host Ben Mankiewicz.
