Hotel' returns to kykNET for third season - What you need to know (photos)

The Kyknet mockumentary, which follows the misadventures of the worst hotel staff assembled since Basil Fawlty tried his hand at hotel management, is back for its third season.

Just two seasons in, with the third to premiere in January, the Afrikaans show already has a dedicated fan base eagerly waiting to see what the unlikely ensemble of Hotel will get up to next.

Hotel Plot Hotel shares a glimpse into the lives and adventures of the lovable but sadly unemployable staff of the Fransen hotel in Fransenburg, Mpumalanga. The hotel used to be the town's pride and joy but can't even get a measly one star on Trip Advisor these days.

Hotel manager Ferdie Kruger and his associate Thomas van As try in vain to restore the Fransen's good name, while Danny, Jonie, Malanie and Brenda try their best to keep guests happy - but failing spectacularly.

The popular show returns to KykNet Channel 144 in January 2019. Without giving too much away, we can confirm that season three is a blast. Danny is still determined to make it big on the arts scene, much to the dismay of his colleagues as he drags them along on his flights of fancy.

Thomas and Ferdie are still trying to overcome their differences and work on their relationship, and Jony is still the driving force behind the hotel. In fact, some would say Jony is the only reason that the Fransen is still in business.

Hotel's Cast and Characters The lovable team snuck into our living rooms and crawled into our hearts. James Borthwick reprises his role as the Fransen's manager, Ferdie, while Beer Adriaanse perfectly portrays Ferdie's associate, Thomas van As.

Also starring Schalk Bezuidenhout in the role of Danny Beyers, Simon Nortmann as Jony Scholtz and Mila Guy as Malanie Schmidt, the cast pushes the boundaries of absurdity as they try their best to come out ahead, despite spending most of their time entirely out of their depth.

The show is refreshing and entertaining, with Bezuidenhout's physical comedy managing to shine without taking away from the talented cast he's surrounded with. The balanced writing gives opportunities for the entire cast to show their range.

On the whole, Hotel certainly has a lot of moving parts and the writing and directing of Ben Fourie (Vuil Wasgoed), and Stiaan Smith (Beurtklag) keeps them running smoothly.
