The two-day EBU Winter General Assembly opens in Geneva today to more than 150 senior public service media executives a significant increase on last year's figure of 129.

The Assembly which will be live streamed exclusively to Members on the new EBU Community platform is the highest decision-making body within the EBU and meets twice annually.

The December Assembly always takes place at EBU headquarters, in Geneva, while its summer equivalent is hosted by a different EBU Member each June.

EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre will present some of the year's standout successes, such as the renegotiation of all renewable sports rights agreements, including the FIFA World Cups 2018 and 2022 and the IAAF 2014-2017 World Athletics Series contract for Europe and Africa.

She will also toast the EBU's faultless delivery of network-related services for several major elections in 2012, for the UEFA EURO 2012 and for the London 2012 Olympics Games, while growing its transmission business with UEFA and Formula 1, and starting a new partnership with the NBA.

Ms Deltenre will then present the EBU's strategic trajectory for the next four years, which will focus on helping Members to do more with less in a fast-changing media world.

That is why we have launched the project Vision 2020, because we must look ahead and define a new vision for PSM, she will say in her speech, adding: There is more freedom today than ever before. There is an explosion of tools and techniques to make a story heard and it lies not only in the hands of traditional media. How can we take advantage of the new access to individuals, crowds and machines? How do we deliver? How do we connect? Unquestionably, it means changing our structures, workflows and organization.

Progress on the Vision 2020 strategy will be presented on Friday by project leader and former NOS Director General, Ruurd Bierman.
