Entries Open for the 2025 EU Investigative Journalism Award

Journalists working in investigative reporting across the Western Balkans and T rkiye are encouraged to enter their published work for the 2025 edition of the EU Investigative Journalism Award. Entries are now open and will close on 16 June 2025 at midnight (CET).

The award seeks to spotlight powerful journalism that serves the public interest and fosters greater accountability. Entries should be in-depth stories published during 2024, addressing pressing issues such as corruption, organised crime, extremism, foreign interference, human rights - including digital rights - and related areas of public interest.

Awards on Both National and Regional Levels Each participating country will host its own award selection, while a separate regional category will honour stories that have either cross-border relevance or involve journalistic cooperation across the region.

Prize funds include:

- 10,000 allocated per country for national awards

- 10,000 total for the regional category

Each level will distribute awards as follows:

- First Prize: 5,000

- Second Prize: 3,000

- Third Prize: 2,000

Work submitted for regional consideration must include an English translation. Individual journalists or teams may apply for one or both categories, with a cap of three entries in total.

Evaluation Process Submissions will be assessed by a panel of experts, including journalists, editors, and media leaders from both local and international backgrounds. Even if a story isn't selected nationally, jury members may recommend it for the regional award if it meets the relevant criteria.

Managed by Thomson Media, the award is part of a broader EU-supported initiative aimed at enhancing journalistic standards in the Western Balkans and T rkiye.

The programme is delivered in partnership with a consortium including Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN Hub), Central European University (Hungary), Association of Journalists (T rkiye), University Goce Delcev Stip (North Macedonia), The Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (North Macedonia), Media Association of South-East Europe (Montenegro) and BIRN Kosovo.
