-- MatrixStore Object Storage to Empower Creativity at Brand New School
Cardiff, UK and New York, USA, December 2019: Object Matrix, the leading provider of Object Storage to the media industry has today announced that it has been selected by US-based creative design and production studio Brand New School, to implement a future proof private cloud storage platform based on MatrixStore, the award-winning storage platform.
As an industry leading design studio that works in film, animation, and experiential mediums, Brand New School faced increasing demands on its storage infrastructure. Through an upgrade provided by Object Matrix, its goal was to not only provide secure and fast content access to its pipelines but also enhance production workflows in two manners: First, by increasing collaboration between Brand New School locations in New York and Los Angeles; Second, by implementing disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Graphics and CGI workflows are incredibly file intensive' with sequences made up of potentially thousands of individual files (DPX etc). For Brand New School, backing up, archiving, finding or restoring that content had become manually intensive, stopping valuable staff from working on core activities that added value to the business.
Devin Brook, Managing Partner, Brand New School:
As a company focused on building new visual voices for brands, our teams and workflows can vary. In these varied creative and production processes, technology is meant to be both additive and silent. When the technology takes our team away from being creative, it is not time well spent. Similarly, anything that can enhance the creative process, or make collaboration more efficient is welcomed with open arms. When looking to fine-tune our workflows and infrastructure, as well as future proof them, we turned to CineSys-Oceana and Object Matrix. They have exemplary reputations and deep domain expertise in their fields. Collectively, they helped us build and support a platform that will ensure we stay true to our company DNA with a robust, dynamic solution.
With protection and availability of content across locations being paramount, Brand New School turned to Harry Skopas and the CineSys-Oceana team. Its expertise in media workflows, data protection and workflow integration helped Brand New School implement a new storage platform that solves the challenges it faces today and, importantly, in the future.
Using its unparalleled experience in media workflows and content protection technologies, CineSys-Oceana quickly realized that a tightly integrated combination of production storage, object storage and asset management tools would provide Brand New School with a platform to protect content locally, automate disaster recovery workflows, and enable seamless collaboration between coasts; thus empowering creativity within the business both now and in the future.
Harry Skopas, Director M/E Solutions Architecture and Technical Sales, CineSys-Oceana:
Having spent 20+ years at the cutting edge of post-production, film, broadcast and media technologies I empathize with companies and the complicated workflow challenges that they currently face. My background combined with CineSys-Oceana's expert engineering and technical resources, help us collectively identify these challenges and architect various solutions. Our tool chest of trusted technology partners, such as Object Matrix, help us design, recommend and implement the most efficient workflows in the industry.
Brand New School purchased 2 petabytes of MatrixStore object storage to be implemented as a private cloud storage platform in conjunction with its new production storage solution. The system will be split across two sites to ensure local protection and disaster recovery for key assets. Brand New School will use the impressive Vision content browser from Object Matrix to enable global collaboration with internal and external clients.
Brand New School, CineSys-Oceana and Object Matrix are in the process of working together in order to fine-tune Object Matrix applications to the demands of high-end graphics, visual effects, 3D, editorial and production workflows. This focus on improving operational efficiency in creative workflows is something Object Matrix is renowned for within the media and entertainment industry.
Nick Pearce, Sales & Marketing Director, Object Matrix:
Production companies, visual effects houses and motion studios are facing the growing challenge of protecting more content, larger content and the inefficiencies around finding and sharing content. Together with CineSys-Oceana, domain experts in this area, we are delighted to be able to help such an exciting company meet the challenges they face today and into the future.
Using Object Matrix applications such as MXFS, DropSpot and Vision, coupled with third party data moving tools, MatrixStore will act as nearline, production storage backup, archive and global collaboration platform.
