Arturia expand the modelled studio with new VIs and processors

Classic compressors modelled, and new V Collection adds virtual instruments & presets

Arturia are continuing to expand their busy software and hardware product lines simultaneously. At NAMM in January, they announced new hardware audio interfaces and the innovative MicroFreak synth, which is already on sale and, indeed, reviewed on page 16XX of this issue. Now theyve dropped a bunch of new modelled software instruments and processors too.

The instruments come with the latest version 7 edition of V Collection, which now contains 23 modelled instruments plus Analog Lab 4 (above left), an easy way of mapping over 8000 of the collections presets across a software or hardware keyboard for instant access with a few simple tone-shaping controls - Arturia suggest this will be handy when seeking to capture an idea quickly or when playing live. In addition, the sound engine of the existing Hammond emulation has been completely rebuilt to make the included B3 V2, and three instruments are completely new: Mellotron V (above right), CZ V and Synthi V (below left and right respectively), which model the famous tape-based sampling keyboard, the sound engine from Casios affordable 1980s phase-distortion synths, and the synth-in-a-suitcase beloved of Brian Eno and Pink Floyd, the EMS Synthi AKS.

The new edition of V Collection follows hot on the heels of 3 Compressors Youll Actually Use, which, as its name suggests, models three classic analogue compressors in one software instrument: the tube-based Gates STA, Ureis much-loved FET-based 1176 and dbxs 165A. As with the new instruments in the V Collection, the modelled compresssors emulate the user interface of the source hardware, while adding occasional extra features that surpass the capabilities of the originals.

3 Compressors... retails for 199 Euros$199, while V Collection 7 costs 499 Euros$499 bought from scratch, although the package is available on offer until June 10 for 399 Euros$399. Owners of existing Arturia products pay 299 Euros$299, while those upgrading specifically from an earlier version of V Collection pay 199 Euros$199. The three new instruments in the Collection are also available for purchase separately (as is Analog Lab 4, which can be used as a stand-alone product) at 199 Euros$199 each, currently discounted to 99 Euros$99 each.
