Upcoming RPAS Workshops

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), in fulfilling its mandate in terms of section 72 of the Civil Aviation Act, 2009 (Act No 13 of 2009), is obligated to put regulations in place for dealing with all the regulatory aspects applicable to the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). The SACAA is one of the very first entities globally to make headway in terms of developing comprehensive regulations.

The process of drafting regulations for RPAS has now been completed and the draft regulations have been submitted to the Minister of Transport for consideration and approval.

As soon as the Minister of Transport approves the regulations, the SACAA wishes to conduct RPAS workshops nationally to introduce these newly developed rules and regulations. In order to facilitate this process, members of the industry intending to operate remotely-piloted aircraft systems are invited to forward their contact details to Mr Sibusiso Ketwa on Ketwas@caa.co.za or 011 545 1387. These details will enable the SACAA to send invitations to the appropriate persons. Further details about the workshops will also be uploaded on the SACAA website in due course.
