On Thursday, 12 December four Namibian short films produced in 2012 will screen at 19h30 at Harecourt (United Reformed Church) in Highbury, London. A question-and- answer session with film critic and director of AfricAvenir Windhoek, Hans-Christian Mahnke will follow the screenings presented by not-for-profit organisations AfricAvenir Windhoek and UK-based Friends of Namibia.

In an initiative to promote and encourage Namibian culture, each film characterises current challenges and developments in modern Namibian society.

My Beautiful Nightmare features the story of a young prostitute, who, after a bad encounter with a client, reconsiders her choices. Directed by Perivi Katjavivi, the film won the Best Actress award at the 2012 Namibia Film and Theatre Awards and the Radwan El-Kashef Independent Shaba Foundation Award at the 2013 Luxor African Film Festival.

Set in the 1980s when Namibia was experiencing apartheid, a young black boy and white girl meet and form a friendship in Dead River. Separated by circumstance they reunite 20 years later. Directed by Tim Huebschle, the film won the Narrative Short Film Award at the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, as well as the Audience Choice Award for Best International Short Film at the Festival Pontino del Cortometraggio in Italy.

Directed by Oshosheni Hivelua, 100 Bucks follows the journey of a 100 Namibia dollar note as it passes through various hands. The film was awarded the Audience Choice Award at the 2012 Namibia Film and Theatre Awards.

Winning Best Director, Best Production Design, Best Screenplay and Best Film at the 2012 Namibia Film and Theatre Awards, Try features a series of events that connects the lives of eight people in eight hours in one city. Directed by Joel Haikali, Try is about love, friendship, family, loyalty, revenge and life in Windhoek, Namibia.
