SVG has announced that MLB Network VP of Engineering and IT Mark Haden will succeed NHL SVP of Technology Grant Nodine as chair of the Sports Content Management & Storage (SCMS) Committee. The committee (previously known as the Sports Asset Management & Storage Committee) comprises top media-asset-management (MAM) and production-workflow decision-makers from AT&T Sports Networks, CBS Sports, MLB Network, NASCAR Productions, NBA, NBC Sports Group/Olympics, NFL Films/Network, PGA Tour Entertainment, Turner Sports, UFC, University of Notre Dame, and WWE.

As the second chairman of the SCMS Committee, Haden will spearhead programming and thought leadership for the SCMS Forum each July, SCMS Workshops at the SVG Chairman's Forum in April, the SVG Summit in December, and a variety of other SCMS Meetups and Briefings throughout the year. In addition, Haden will help lead the committee's efforts to encourage and facilitate the sharing of knowledge among SVG member organizations.

It's an honor and a privilege to be asked to chair the Sports Content Management and Storage Committee for SVG. Under the leadership of Grant Nodine, this key aspect of our business has been very well-served, says Haden. Our content is of immense value to our respective businesses and our sports. The collaborative sharing of ideas and technologies is important as we navigate the various ways to gain efficiency, protect our assets, and make smart cost-of-ownership decisions. What Grant and SVG have done with this committee over the last three years has been truly impressive. With SVG, I hope to continue the momentum they have built.

As VP of engineering and IT, Haden ensures that the technical needs of both MLB Network and MLB Productions are met. With a staff of more than 40 professional technicians, he oversees day-to-day technical operations as well as broadcast and office computer networks for the league's lens-to-satellite facility.

Responsible for refreshing technologies, Haden also keeps a close eye on the future, investigating new and promising innovations and techniques. With more than 35 years of varied technical experience, he was previously at ABC News, served as director of East Coast production at HBO, and also held positions with USA Network and Lifetime Television.

Haden succeeds Nodine, who shepherded the SCMS initiative for three years as the inaugural chair. He will continue to be an active member of the SCMS Committee.

In my tenure as chairman of what is now the SCMS Committee of SVG, I have guided and participated in a significant expansion of the technological depth and topical breadth of the subjects of our discourse around media assets, says Nodine. First and foremost, thanks to all of the other committee members and SVG staff who have dedicated their time and effort to expanding the discussion to include the universe of subjects that are now inextricably linked to our original focus on media-asset management. I look forward to passing the baton to a good friend and colleague in Mark Haden from MLB, who I am certain will continue to lead our efforts to sharpen our focus on the technologies and strategies that will empower sports-content business to reach new heights in the future.
