German production company _wige GROUP has expanded its use of Signiant's technology to quickly move sports content to customers and partners worldwide. The largest motorsports producer in Germany, _wige GROUP specializes in motion picture content for corporations, TV broadcasters, and digital platforms.
For 35 years, _wige GROUP has been committed to highly flexible, efficient, and lower cost production processes, including the way they transfer their large video files, which average 20 GB and can contain up to two hours of content.
Before turning to Signiant, _wige GROUP mailed hard drives with footage, but it had taken up to five days for critical content to reach international clients. _wige GROUP needed a faster solution and selected Signiant's Media Exchange in 2012 to move large files over IP networks around the world. They were familiar with Signiant's powerful on-premises file transfer solution because many of their enterprise customers were already using it. The company immediately saw the impact of accelerated file transfer when customers in the Asia Pacific region were able to download files in just hours, rather than waiting days for a hard drive to arrive in the mail.
In the last several years, _wige GROUP has further expanded their global business and their IT infrastructure. They recently decided to add Signiant's Media Shuttle to their operations. Its easy to use, web browser interface gives even their most remote clients access to fast and secure large file transfer technology. And Media Shuttle's brandable design keeps _wige GROUP's trusted logo and imagery in front of their customers.
In the sports broadcast industry, timeliness is essential. Viewers want access to the latest race, or highlights from the last week in sports; all in HD quality, says Jukka Lampo, Distribution Manager, _wige GROUP. Signiant has completely revolutionized how we send large files, from physically mailing tapes, to sending large files in under an hour. Our customers have been extremely happy with this improved workflow, and it's had a positive impact on our bottom line.
By using Media Shuttle, _wige GROUP was able to improve their customers' experience and allow them to receive content much faster. As a result, _wige GROUP can incorporate that content into broadcast schedules during the same week, and quickly compile highlights of recent sporting events. For example, _wige GROUP recently distributed footage of the first Longines CSI St Moritz horse racing event, and far away fans got to catch up on the historic event within a few days.
HD content inevitably means large files, and it's critical for broadcasters, production companies, and post-production companies to quickly transfer these large files to their customers and partners, says Greg Hoskin, Managing Director EMEA, Signiant.
