Samsung and NAGRA to demo TVkey for the first time in North America at CES 2017
Cheseaux, Switzerland and Seoul, Korea - November 29, 2016 - NAGRA, a Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) company and the worlds leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, and Samsung Electronics, today announced that the TVkey USB dongle has been named a CES 2017 Innovation Award Honoree in the Home Audio/Video Components and Accessories category.
TVkey allows consumers to enjoy premium content directly on new TV sets through a simple sign-up process with their pay-TV provider and experience high-quality services, including 4K Ultra HD and HDR, directly on selected Samsung TVs using the TV remote control. The system provides the highest level of content protection and the USB dongle offers a fast and secure way for pay-TV operators to bring advanced services directly to new consumer TV sets.
With TVkey, pay-TV operators now have an easy and secure end-to-end approach to connect consumers to the content they love, without the need for additional investment or equipment costs, said Maurice Van Riek, SVP Content and Asset Security for NAGRA. From accessibility to high-quality content and to 4K Ultra HD televisions that will enhance the user experience, TVkey is a game changer in how consumers will approach their in-home entertainment options, making this a product that stands apart in the market.
The TVkey approach allows consumers to access the widest range of premium and UHD TV content directly on their TV sets, said Jong-hee Han, Executive Vice President, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. With TVkey, consumers can insert the USB dongle in their new TVs, register with their pay-TV operators and start enjoying their favorite programming on the spot.
The TVkey framework is based on a NAGRA-designed root of trust that communicates securely with the TVkey dongle and the TVkey chip in newer-model Samsung TVs. This creates a secure media path and enables strict enforcement of usage rules as required by Hollywood for the protection of high-value content.
