The Bioscope Independent Cinema in Johannesburg is celebrating Halloween with a line-up of hair-raising horror flicks from 31 October to 2 November.
On Thursday 31 October at 19h30, viewers can enjoy a portion of noodles by Maboneng District restaurant, The Blackanese, in the cinema while watching the featured Kung Fu movie Chanbara Beauty. The film is set in a future world where characters Aya and Saki combat a zombie population, until a greater threat sees them joining forces against a new enemy, Himiko. Noodles can be chosen upon purchasing movie tickets at R70 each.
Frankenstein s Army screens at 21h00 on Friday 1 November, as part of Horrorfest, a unique cinema festival by Cape Town-based Flamedrop Productions. At the end of World War II, Russian soldiers discover the journal of Dr Victor Frankenstein in a local German village. They fight to make it out of the village alive after encountering a frightening pack of super-soldiers stitched together from the body parts of their fallen comrades. Tickets for the screening cost R40 each.
Strange attacks plague the women living in a township in Blood Tokoloshe, screening at 20h30 on Saturday, 2 November. Unbeknown to the community, local businessman Mthunzi has struck a deal with a beast that grants him riches and women in exchange for blood. When Mthunzi breaks a rule in the agreement, a killing rampage ensues. Tickets to the movie cost R40 each.
