Time to Get Your Submissions Ready: HPA Awards Creative Categories Open June 3!

The call for submissions for the HPA Engineering Excellence Awards is already open, and closes soon on June 14; but the submission period for creative categories is just about to open on June 3 and will remain open until July 26. The call for creative submissions is open to projects that debuted between September 5, 2023 - September 3, 2024.

Creative Categories recognize excellence in Color Grading, Editing, Sound, Visual Effects, and Restoration for film, episodic and commercial work. At last year's ceremony, notable highlights included Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, lauded for its outstanding editing by Jennifer Lame, and Fotokem's Kostas Theodosiou and Kristen Zimmerman, recognized for exceptional color grading. The entire evening was a celebration of amazing work, and other standout winners encompassed John Wick: Chapter 4 for sound, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse for animated color grading, and Avatar: The Way of Water for groundbreaking VFX. Paramount Pictures' restoration of The Godfather and series such as Barry and House of the Dragon were also celebrated.

Amidst the anticipation and excitement of our 19th year, the HPA Awards, as always, stand as a testament to evolution and excellence in an industry that never rests on its laurels. While our dedication to recognition remains steadfast, we embrace change, adapting our categories to reflect the dynamic landscape of our industry. Last year, the HPA Awards Committee introduced three new categories, all of which are returning this year - Outstanding Restoration; Outstanding Color Grading Animation; and Outstanding Visual Effects Animation.
