AEQ NCS-Olympia, in the heart of the audio in Sochi 2014 The audio of the totality of the commentator on the winter games Olimipicos jobs was based on technology AEQ BC2000D.
Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), company designated by the Olympic Committee for the deployment of the infrastructure of radio and television games Sochi 2014 (Russia) winter Olimipcos selected technology AEQ NCA-Olympia to equip all of the commentators there employed positions, renewing an initiated confidence in for this type of competitions in Nagano 1998.
During the games were generated over 1,300 hours of live sports, ceremonies and ONC (Olympic News channel) and 1,200 hours of programming multichannel distribution service (MDS) distributed from an IBCs 40,000 square feet of functional space with a MBC (Mountain broadcast centre) associate of 5,000 square meters where they worked approximately about 2,700 professionals to give radio and television coverage.
With more than 80 broadcasters with rights of retransmission displaced and "in situ" to cover the event of winter sports by excellence, the Host Broadcaster, OBS deployed the best of the best in production equipment, including a total of 532 commentators AEQ Olympias latest positions.
AEQ Olympia not only consists of a series of positions of commentators especially designed for the work of journalists, but consists of a very complex system of routing, transportation, distribution and control of the signals of audio between all the competition venues, the center of retransmissions of the Krasnaya Polyana mountain (MBC) and the main broadcast Center International (IBC) in Sochi.
Of the more than 80 broadcasters international deployed in Sochi, some 55 were equipped with a panel of digital Audio AEQ (DAP) at its facilities in IBC or MBC. The DAP consists of a chassis of BC2000D router with the necessary input and output of audio cards and according to requested OBS, audio channels and services including those coming from the positions of commentators at the headquarters. Broadcasters without DAP received across a link MADI or AES/EBU Audio signals for their own teams.
Olympia with chassis BC2000D 100
The entire system AEQ Olympia deployed included a hundred chassis AEQ BC2000D with 221 MADI redundant fiber interconnect links and 28 high speed links with capacity of 1024 channels of Audio for interconnection of distributors and audio hubs. The whole system AEQ Olympia has the ability to work with up to 5120 x 5120 circuits (redundancy) that used some 1,600 in Sochi 2014. As a curious detail pointed out that only the redundant power supply used have a capacity joint of approximately 110,000 watts.
For the crewmens operators, supervisors and journalists between the different campuses AEQ has developed a module VoIP dedicated within Olympia called BC2219 who works as a communications interface between system control software on PCs and system audio ports, including the positions of commentators. In this way audio communications are maintained within the general TDM system but in a format that makes it possible to convert a PC or laptop into an intercom terminal. They were some 120 VoIP cards with capacity of 20 bi-directional channels each, leaving the operating end equivalent to an intercom with a capacity of 2400 ports.
The commentator AEQ Olympia system is controlled by a complete "suite" of software that has features dedicated, as merely monitoring and quality control to operators in venues requiring adjustments and assisting journalists giving unilateral coverage of the competition audio with your speech according to the functions of the operator or user. AEQ Olympia offers a complete range of functions for signal processing of Audio compression/limiting, Expander, noise gates, high-pass filters or bass, gain etc. processors and that can be applied to each audio input of the system, without limiting the total number of processes in the system, i.e. any signal in the system can process.
For the global control of AEQ Olympia had to create a dedicated network of more than 600 IP address data, which meant a great work planning for only 16 days of competition, since precisely this part of the system is critical in the deployment of a system of this size. To configure and deploy a system of this size on a temporary basis but with all the redundancy that is needed for an event like the Olympics, we must have adequate and powerful tools. AEQ Olympia has a SW of planning that allows to calculate exactly the amount of necessary hardware, the configuration of ports and links needed, sub-systems and redundancies. Leaving obviously nothing to chance. The SW has a very complex database to be able to accommodate all possibilities, including probable exceptions. Once planning is completed and has been physically configured each of the necessary chassis, the SW is used to send the settings to the system AEQ Olympia physically already deployed and installed in each of the competition venues.
