Wesgro invites Cape film and media industry to participate in new research survey --

Wesgro invites members of the Cape film and media industry to participate in our new industry value chain baseline study s online survey.

This baseline study aligns with the South African Film Industry economic baseline research commissioned by the National Film and Video Foundation and is conducted by financial services company, Grant Thornton.

A critical element of the study is engagement with film and media stakeholders throughout the value chain in order to gain an understanding of Cape Town and the Western Cape s industry, which will be done via the aforementioned survey from 5 to 26 April 2017.

The survey s primary focus is on the constraints and growth drivers in the industry, and should be considered an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to the future development of the Capes film and media industry.

Members of the industry can access the survey here. All responses will be treated with the highest confidence and data will be reported on in aggregation throughout the study.

Wesgro CEO Tim Harris said: Cape Town is one of the top ten film locations centres globally. The provinces beautiful locations, great climate, high quality infrastructure, the industry s lowest annual operating costs, and over 2 500 direct service providers by our last count have positioned the local film and media industry as a key emerging sector.

We intend to conduct a number of international missions over the next financial year to attract more investment in this sector and the baseline survey we are producing will provide us and the industry much-needed scope and clarity, as well as identify opportunities to drive growth.

We look forward to seeing the industry s comments and proposals once the research is concluded, and invite all film and media stakeholders to join the study.

Lance Greyling, Director of Enterprise and Investment in the City of Cape Town, indicated that the City-Film online survey is a crucial input into the film industry research. The final research will inform the City of Cape Town s film policy, by-laws and the types of interventions that are required to grow the Cape Town film industry, said Greyling. The film industry is critical to the local economy, contributing to job-creation, foreign direct investment and the marketing of Cape Town.
