Beasts Bryan Simpson Cuts New Music Video for Wavves

Beast Chicago's Bryan Simpson recently edited the new music video

for Wavves, directed by Jack Wagner. The quick cuts underscore the band's frenetic energy, weaving together live concert footage from their 2015 tour with shots of their behind-the-scenes antics.

To achieve the final cut, Simpson had to carefully re-time footage of multiple tour performances of My Head Hurts so that the tempo matched the album cut of the song. From there, he could weave shots from various tour dates together seamlessly. Simpson worked closely with Wagner to identify the footage that best reflected the band's vitality, and to achieve a balanced juxtaposition of onstage and offstage material.

This was a fun project because there were no boards or scripts, so there was a lot of freedom to play around with the footage and focus on capturing that raw energy, said Simpson. Jack was a great collaborator during the edit, he helped make this a really fun project from start to finish.

My Head Hurts was a team effort for Deluxe's Chicago facility, with Company 3's Paul Galati providing color grading and Method's Joseph Madurski providing finishing. Galati also colored the band's previous music video, Way Too Much, which was also directed by Wagner.
