YouView Summer Internship: Applications Open

We are delighted to announce the opening of applications for our 2019 summer internship programme. These are paid ten-week internships based in our London offices starting on June 24th, 2019.

This is the opportunity to spend your summer working at a company that is combining Live TV and On Demand with cutting edge technology to bring viewers the simplest way to find the content they love. Currently in over three million UK households, YouView is a joint venture between BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, BT, TalkTalk and Arqiva - some of the UK's leading media businesses.

This the fifth year of our successful intern scheme and many of our previous placement students have benefited from a fast track onto our highly competitive graduate schemes.

What will you be doing?

The internships are based across the technology teams, which are a crucial aspect of our business. The teams hold a wide range of responsibilities including the design, development and deployment of cutting-edge software and hardware developed at YouView.

This could include anything from developing HTML and mobile applications to AV media encoding and distribution, building back-end services to maintaining the platform 24/7. There really is such variation day-to-day, you are sure to have an insightful and enjoyable ten weeks with us.

At YouView you can expect to become part of the team and really have an impact upon the business. For the duration of the internship you will be working on a personal tech project, which you will demonstrate in front of the team at the end.

What do you need?

Technology is at the heart of everything YouView does, the team lives and breathes it. You need to have this same passion for technology and understanding of industry trends and best practises. We are a data driven business and data dictates most of our decisions, so you need to be comfortable with data algorithms and understand how they work.

As a company, we are completely obsessed with finding new ways to revolutionise and improve the viewing experience of the UK audience. We are looking for somebody that shares this obsession and desire to put our three million end-users first and ensure YouView is the best place to find the content they love.

The scheme is aimed at undergraduates in their penultimate or final year of their degree, studying Engineering, Maths, Physics or Computer Science.

YouView is also very proud to have recently been placed as one of the Top 50 Medium-sized Undergraduate Employers in the United Kingdom for 2019. This came as a result of a high number of interns that worked with us last summer, rating it as a great place to work.

Last summer, our interns took place in a charity table football tournament which raised over £150 for St Mungo's. We also hold regular company stand ups which involve the whole company and offer a great opportunity for the team to showcase their work.
