Cantemo Training Day

The team at Cantemo, including myself, Mike Szumlinski and Henrik Janhagen, recently held a 3-day workshop offering an in-depth tutorial of our Media Asset Management system, Cantemo Portal, exclusively for North American resellers. The event was designed to expand on attendees existing knowledge, including tackling issues such as advanced troubleshooting, and high-availably deployments.

It was hoped the workshop would also increase the ability for existing resellers and administrators to better support customers if issues were to arise. It turned out to be very popular and was at capacity for the whole of the three days.

Day one Day one begun with a class full of eager partners, keen to learn more about Portal. The team started off broadly, giving an overview of the components of Portal, followed by a demo. After lunch, attendees were able to setup their own systems, installing Portal, ingesting an item, creating users and even creating Rules Engine 3 Workflows. Following the formal workshop, many of the students joined us for some pizza and a casual Q&A during the evening.

Day two Another full class awaited the team on day two, even more eager than the previous day! Following on from a broad introduction on day one, the team held a detailed workthrough of the Portal NLE integration and Portal Apps, including the Rough Cut Editor. Attendees were also given a tutorial on jobstep-scripts, in order to customise workflows to suit different customers. As a rather cruel ending to the day, we destroyed all of the attendees systems (Oops!) to give a lesson in troubleshooting Portal. In the evening, Mike thanked attendees and instructors by taking us all out to dinner - a great way to spend our last evening, thanks Mike!

Day three We saved the best til last! Day three was probably the most technologically complex of the workshop, but was a big success by the end. Every attendee managed to setup Portal in high-availability setup mode, meaning if one server crashes, a synced backup is at hand to prevent Portal from failing.

The feedback we received during the workshop was great. Attendees particularly noted that the workshops were far removed from a sales pitch and wholly concerned with increasing their knowledge of operating Portal. As a team, this was great to hear!
