Ad Hoc Announcement Pursuant to 5 WpHG: Carl Zei Meditec achieves furer revenue grow in first half of 04/5 Negative result from currency hedging

Carl Zeiss Meditec (ISIN: DE0005313704) has achieved revenue of approximately EUR 498 million in the first half of FY 2014/15, based on preliminary data. This corresponds to a growth rate vs. the previous year of approx. 8%. This result was supported by currency effects. On a constant currency basis, growth vs. the previous year amounted to approx. 4%.

Earnings before interest & taxes (EBIT) for the first half of FY 2014/15 amounted to approx. EUR 61 million, a decline of 4% vs. the previous year, resulting in an EBIT margin of 12.2% (PY: 13.8%). Adjusted for additional strategic research & development expenses in the area of ophthalmology, as announced in December 2014, EBIT would have reached approx. EUR 68 million, which is 5% above the comparable previous year's value.

Earnings per share (EPS) are expected at around EUR 0.37. This corresponds to a decline of 24% vs. the previous year and is mainly related to a negative result from currency hedging.

EBIT margin is expected to be within a range of 13-15% in the mid-term. In the current business year, the EBIT margin is also expected to be within this range, if adjusted for the additional strategic research & development expenses in the area of ophthalmology.
