Blancco Joins R2 Leaders to Educate Universities about Data Privacy and Safe Electronics Recycling - Dec 02 2014 Atlanta, Ga., December 2, 2014 - In 2015, worldwide combined shipments of PCs, tablets, ultramobiles and mobile phones are estimated to reach 2.6 billion units, leaving individuals and organizations looking for ways to securely recycle their older electronic media. To help them balance the need for data privacy with sustainable reuse, Blancco, the global leader in data erasure and computer reuse solutions, has joined R2 Leaders, a program hosted by Sustainable Electronics Recycling (SERI), home of the R2 standard.
As part of the R2 Leader program, Blancco will head an effort to educate U.S. college and university students, faculty and staff about securely erasing data from IT assets they want to recycle, sell, donate or dispose. Launching in early 2015, a college tour will emphasize data erasure as a critical practice for safe and sustainable electronics recycling.
Blancco understands that individuals and organizations want sustainable and compliant options like donating or recycling old IT equipment but are afraid of exposing gigabytes of sensitive data, leading many to physically destroy usable equipment, said Heidi Williams, Marketing Manager, Blancco.
